On 2 and 3 June we proudly present the ‘master of the classical samba’ Paulinho da Viola in a very special concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in Rotterdam.

Paulinho da Viola does not appear often outside his native country; you have to go to Rio de Janeiro to hear him perform live. But this June Paulinho is making a rare overseas trip – to Rotterdam – to give two concerts with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra: Brasil Sinfônico.

Sambista and singer-songwriter Paulinho da Viola has acquired an almost mythical status in Brazil: ‘master of the classical samba’; ‘living legend’; ‘a true prince’.

Brasil Sinfônico is a symphonic voyage of discovery through the music of Brazil. From Heitor Villa-Lobos to Antônio Carlos Jobim – who became known through his bossa nova compositions such as The Girl from Ipanema, but who also wrote a symphony. Special guest is guitarist/composer Yamandu Costa, who plays his own compositions accompanied by the orchestra. But the absolute star of the evening is Paulinho da Viola.
